WHAT IS VISA PayWave?
Widely accepted around the world, you can use your VISA payWave enabled card at all member outlets. Rest assured that all transactions are secure and processed using the same network as always. Quick and convenient to use, no PIN entry is required for transctions below *AED 300.
HOW IT WORKS?
- Step 1: Look for the Visa payWave mark and contactless logo at the point of sale.
- Step 2: When you’re ready to pay, hold your card in close proximity to the terminal or reader (less than 4 cm from where the contactless logo appears).
- Step 3: Once the terminal or reader confirms that your transaction is approved, you’re ready to go - no signature or PIN required for transactions below *AED 300.

Could I unknowingly have made a purchase if I walk past the reader?
Your card has to be waved within a close range (less than 4 centimetres) of the payment reader or terminal for more than half a second and the retailer must have first entered the amount for you to approve. Terminals can only process one payment transaction at a time, therefore reducing transaction errors.
What is Visa payWave?
Visa payWave is a new contactless method of payment that removes the need to physically swipe or insert a card into a payment terminal. By simply holding the Visa payWave card within 4 centimetres of the terminal, the card will be detected and the transaction made.
How does Visa payWave work?
The card has a tiny antenna embedded into the card, which securely transmits payment instructions to and from a specially adapted card terminal.
Is this technology as secure as traditional Visa cards?
Your Visa payWave-enabled card is just as secure as any other Visa chip card and carries the same multiple layers of security protection. In addition, you also have peace of mind since the card remains in your hand throughout the entire transaction.
Is there any chance that payments may be taken twice from my account?
Visa payWave terminals are designed to only make one transaction per card at a time. All Visa payWave terminals are tested and certified to confirm that a card is only read once before the transaction is concluded. As a safeguard, each transaction must be complete or void before another one can take place.
Which retailers will accept my card?
Your card will be accepted for Visa payWave transactions wherever you see the contactless symbol and Visa logo at the point of sale. We expect Visa payWave to be popular at many of the locations you visit every day such as grocery stores, fast food outlets, coffee bars, convenience stores, and transport providers. And your Visa payWave card still has all the regular features of a nonpayWave card, so you can still ‘swipe or dip’ your card for traditional transactions at millions of locations worldwide that accept Visa.
